Looking at the current headlines, you would think that the world is going to stand absolutely still as we all watch and wait for the confirmation that Tom Cruise has married Katie Holmes. You would honestly think that their marriage is one of the most important things going on in the world this weekend. The headlines seem to come across as,"Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are getting ready to wed in Italy....and by the way......Hostages were taken in Iraq."

It is very apparent that in the United States there is way too much value placed on celebrity and money. We all know what is going to sell papers and magazines. We, as human beings, are for some reason more interested in the lives of celebrities versus our own reality and the reality of the world around us. Are our lives that depressing and empty? Apparently so.

Perhaps, while we are reading the most up-to-date gossip, we can keep in mind that there is little truth behind these articles and everything is exaggerated to get our attention, and perhaps we can refocus and apply our energy into bettering our own lives. I can tell ya, yes, I am excited for Tom and Katie, and I am happy for them and wish them the best, but I am also grieving for the pain and suffering that is being experienced in the middle-east. I feel for the parents and families that are anxiously awaiting the safe return of thier son/daughter/aunt/cousin, etc.

Be careful where you place value. Our values become our destiny. If you place too much value in the lives of people that you don't even know (i.e. celebrities), then as a result you don't place enough value in your own life. As a result of watching other people live their dreams, I guarantee that you will fall short of yours.
