On the Horizon...New Year Resolutions

You cannot face reality as it is and expect reality to change in any way.

New Year Resolutions are motivated by our desire to change. Our intention is to self-examine ourselves and our lives to see if there is anything that we would like to improve. As human beings, we are constantly growing and expanding ourselves. If we aren’t, then we feel stagnant and unhappy.

This year, if you are deliberately wanting to make lasting changes in your life, that path starts in every day, in every action, and in every thought. It isn’t about making a grand declaration at the beginning of the year and hoping that some magic fairy waves a wand as you continue to observe the life that you are living. You cannot face reality as it is and expect reality to change in any way. For example, let’s say that you are unhappy with your job. It isn’t what you envisioned yourself doing and you dread going to work every morning, but every day you get up, get ready, go to work, come home, make dinner, hang out, talk to your spouse about how much you hate your job, then you go to bed. Next day, you get up, get ready, go to work, come home, make dinner, hang out, talk to your spouse about how much you hate your job, then you go to bed. Next day, you…get the point?

Another example could be someone in a marriage or committed relationship that is unhappy and unfulfilled. Again, day after day, you live what you observe and eventually learn to accept your reality as it is. You eventually convince yourself that this is as good as it gets, so the reality that you are living becomes the reality that you live your entire life even though you wake up every morning with a knot in your stomach.

Now, one thing that I want to make very clear is that I am not suggesting that you jump into action. It would actually be the most beneficial if you didn’t. Rather, starting thinking about it. Start thinking about how you prefer things to be. Get your eyes, words, and thoughts off of “what-is” and focus predominantly on what you prefer. Eventually, as you think about how you want things to be, you will soon be inspired to act, and those inspired actions and thoughts will get you to where you are trying to go.

As for myself, I am going to approach this “New Year’s thing” a little differently this year. I am a very driven goal-oriented person, so in the past, I would make a list of what I wanted to accomplish during that year and simply cross things off as I went. This year, there is not going to be a list, but rather, I am simply going to focus on my thoughts and focus my attention on my dreams. I am not going to go into too much detail here, but my New Year objective can be summed up in two words: Pay attention. There is a thorough explanation behind those two words, but I have rambled long enough today.

This is going to be a great year for Playerplaza.com as we roll out our new framework and new technology. I appreciate your patience as we make sure that all the t’s are crossed and the i’s are dotted. It’s coming. In the meantime, have a great holiday season and don't be afraid to imagine a better life!
